M&S at College Valley

The Marks & Spencer project at College Valley will sequester in excess of 7,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over its growing period of approximately 60 years. At the end of this period it will reach a steady state of carbon storage and move from being a carbon sink to become a carbon reservoir. The planting at the site equates to an average of one tree planted for every 12 home deliveries made by Marks & Spencer.

College Valley Estate is situated in north Northumberland in the heart of the Cheviot Hills, an area of renowned beauty. The estate extends to nearly 4,800 hectares and lies entirely within the Northumberland National Park (NNP).

It was bought with funds originally provided by the Trustees of the late Sir James Knott. Sir James was a North East industrialist, MP and philanthropist, and his spirit lives on through The Sir James Knott Trust. ( www.knott-trust.co.uk )

The Valley can be accessed from the B6351, off the A697 running from Morpeth on the south to Coldstream in the North. Follow signs for Hethpool, continuing through Hethpool to the Estate entrance.
